1. Evergreen content

Reuse what you’ve posted already! Evergreen content — posts that don’t age — helps fill out a sparse editorial calendar and engages your followers. Don’t be afraid to fall back on your tried and true, search-optimized content that remains relevant to your brand. This can mean sharing tips, how-to content or SEO-optimized articles.

We use less busy periods to write extra blog posts or whitepapers, do SEO research or curate social media content for future use. We keep a list of evergreen ideas throughout the year for each our clients. Then, in those bound-to-happen periods where not much is happening, or you take a well-deserved vacation, we use them to fill out our clients’ social media schedules. The best news: you can use them again and again.

2. Meet the staff

Summer is a great time to highlight employees and summer interns. Feature photos or videos, behind-the-scenes fun, do a short Q&A, or share a bio. What are people up to this summer? How do you beat the heat? Make your brand more personal to your audience. Even a short video/reel of an office walkthrough with everyone saying hi can create fun, relatable content. Don’t forget to tag your staff!

One of our favorite clients, Lipis Advisors, wins the award for the most creative team-building event: sheep herding! Although it has nothing to do with their industry, this was one of their most popular posts for the whole year.

3. Holiday/UN international day posts

There are lots of holidays in the summer months that can provide fun or educational content opportunities. Depending on your brand, there are even made-up holidays such as “Give Something Away Day” (July 15) or “International Coworking Day” (August 9) that can be great opportunities to supplement your social media content and use trending hashtags. Google or use social media to find the right hashtags, or use ritetag.com to create a new one. Maybe you’re hosting a 4th of July (US Independence Day) barbeque for staff? Share photos and wish everyone a happy holiday.

Here’s a fun example, posted on Instagram by Rubin Museum of Art for World Listening Day (July 18)

4. Educational posts

Educational content about your field is always valuable. Think blog posts, YouTube videos, podcasts, etc. While this format is always relevant, be mindful that in summer your followers are probably spending less time on social media and are likely more interested in lighter, humanizing and entertaining content — so keep your tips short and sweet, and avoid long-form posts.

5. Summer promotions & sales

Are you offering summer sales or discounts? Business can slow down in the summer months, making it a great time to run limited-time offers and promotions. Collaborate with a local business to make it more community-driven and engage more followers.

Whatever you decide to post in summer, ensure it’s in line with your brand and engages your followers.
